Ukraine can win this war and you can help

Razom Advocacy is a branch of Razom for Ukraine committed to advancing nonpartisan research and policy and to nurturing community engagement across the United States and Ukraine. We work together with experts, policy-makers, and constituents to help build a more democratic and prosperous Ukraine.

Razom Advocacy’s mission is supported by broad networks of supporters, including donors, experts, advocates, and partner organizations. We provide resources and tools for these networks to engage in advocacy.

what we are asking for

EXPEDITED MILITARY AID

The Russian military is bombarding residential areas and targeting civilians and evacuation zones. Incompletely or belatedly meeting Ukraine’s military needs increases the risk of a long and bloody war of attrition with high civilian casualties, war crimes, and genocide.

We ask Congress to work with the Administration to bolster Ukrainian airpower and tank forces, particularly in light of the monumental successes of the recent counteroffensive.

Europe will not be stable unless Ukraine prevails against the invasion. The United States must provide more advanced systems and munitions, in particular precision-strike long-range weapons, like ATACMS.

SANCTIONS

We ask members of Congress to strengthen sanctions to
decrease Russia’s capacity to make war, violate international humanitarian laws, and commit atrocities.

Sanctions must change incentive structures for individuals involved in carrying out the invasion.

The U.S. should target sanctions against material-service providers circumventing the Controlled Sales Regime and support Russian oil price cap efforts underway.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The larger-scale economic support is imperative for Ukraine to keep fighting and win. Ukraine currently needs $5B per month to cover essential government services and keep its economy functioning.

MEDICAL SUPPLIES

Bulk orders (>300,000) of basic individual first aid kits (IFAKs) are the most pressing medical need.

STATE SPONSOR OF TERRORISM

The U.S. must designate Russia a State Sponsor of Terrorism.

Razom Advocacy Team took over New York this weekend!
Team members from near and far convened in New York for a two-day, action-packed program involving meeting other Razom teams and the Razom community at large to learn more about one another and do more great work together!
Friday was all about strategy and meeting with partners, including @renewdemocracy and our friends at the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya and Ms. Yaroslava Sochka.
On Saturday, the Razom Advocacy Team presented its work to the Razom community and received updates on the ongoing developments of Razom as an organization. Thanks to the Shevchenko Scientific Society in New York for hosting us!
The Team then went a few blocks south in the Ukrainian Village to visit the Ukrainian Response Initiative’s new office space and meet Lesya, a displaced Ukrainian in New York, and listen to her story.
Finally, Tania Khodakivska @tkhodakivska gave the Team a guided tour of an exhibit titled “Hi-Resolution: Ukrainian Culture and Contemporary Art Now” on view at the CUNY Graduate Center on 5th Avenie in New York now until February 10th. Stop by and see it for yourself!
Thanks to everyone who joined the different sessions and coffee breaks and met with members of the Razom Advocacy Team this weekend.
Together - we are Ukraine!

Despite the horrors of the last year of Russia’s full-scale invasion and war in Ukraine, Americans – both of Ukrainian-American descent and from other backgrounds – have united together to advocate on behalf of our shared values of freedom and self-determination. In 2022, the Razom Advocacy Team was able to organize an advocacy network of more than 1,454 individuals. With all of your tireless support, we were able to achieve some notable successes throughout the year.

In 2022, our Advocacy Team members and our network of Razom Advocates held more than 526 meetings with Congressional offices to ask for critical support for Ukraine such as military aid, the strengthening of sanctions, and economic assistance. Meetings weren’t the only way our advocates reached out to their Members of Congress – they also sent3,671 messages to Capitol Hill, urging Congress to declare Russia a State Sponsor of Terrorism and to label Russia’s actions in Ukraine a genocide, among other important advocacy messages. By joining our advocacy network, individuals can call, send emails, and engage with their lawmakers on Twitter.

Thank you to all of our advocates and supporters for making all of our advocacy work possible in 2022 – we could not have done this without your passionate phone calls, emails, tweets, and donations. We hope to continue this momentum into 2023 and work together to help achieve Ukrainian victory together.

Not just Wagner group, but Russia shall be designated as terrorist state!

11 months of full-scale war in Ukraine, just one month before we mark a full year of nonstop terror, horror, and devastation brought on by russia.
You know what to do - reach out to your representatives in government today to let them know (for the first time or the thousandth time) that you’d like to see continued support (military, financial, humanitarian) for Ukraine.
If you’re in the EU - reach out to your governments to put pressure on Germany to #FreeTheLeopards.
If you’re in the US - heres the link to our one-stop shop for reaching out to your reps. It takes five minutes. But it matters.

What about deaths in Ukraine? Why omit that statistic?

The 118th Congress, sworn in on January 3rd, 2023, has a critical task ahead of them: to continue to provide support for Ukraine in the next two years to ensure Ukrainian victory and swift reconstruction.

Already, a few elected officials from both parties have expressed their skepticism around continuing to support Ukraine, something so important for the future of Ukraine, a democratic and free world, and Americas security interests abroad.

In this moment of change, it is vital for constituents like you to urge Congressional offices to continue to support Ukraine. Your opinion matters, and hearing from you helps offices set their priorities for the upcoming Congress.

Please take a moment of your time and email, call, or tweet your Members of Congress to let them know how important Ukraine aid is to you:

Are you having a good Saturday? Ukraine isnt.
russia has shelled multiple parts of Ukraine mercilessly yet again today.
Places like Kharkiv are entirely without electricity and in Dnipro, an entire apartment block was wiped off the face of the earth from a direct strike.
It is estimated that nearly 60 people are injured as a result of the attack on the civilian apartment building in Dnipro, it is unknown how many people have died as search and rescue operations are ongoing and there are dozens of people stuck under the rubble. Their screams can be heard still.
Peace will come when russia leaves Ukraine.
Ukraine needs weapons from its allies and partners to defend itself and the entire world from this atrocity. There will be no trilogy to the world war if Ukraine stops russia on its land. #ArmUkraineNow
Heres how you can help now: Become an Advocate for Ukraine.

Wrong. Russia as liberating Ukranins from ukronazzis 🇷🇺🤗

Russia makes me sick...evil people living in Russia

Every day new evidence of Russian state terrorism

Have you ever wondered exactly how US support helps Ukraine? 🤔
Wonder no more because Razom and the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center have the answer!
Check out this graph that breaks down the $8.5 billion supplied by the United States to Ukraine in direct budget support.
From pensions for seniors to salaries for first responders, US budget support has helped to guarantee Ukrainian society’s ability to defend itself against russian invaders.
Share this information with your friends and family that are interested in finding out how critical budget support to Ukraine help Ukrainians survive the winter.
It’s especially important to keep in mind that this support has amounted to less than 15% of Ukraine’s total budget expenses.
You can also take 5 minutes out of your day to contact your reps in Congress and A) thank them for their support of Ukraine and 😎 tell them you’d like to see more support for Ukraine, through more weapons deliveries and direct budget support!
Let’s continue supporting Ukraine - together, #Razom.
