Vice President of Development

The Role

 

The VP of Development will be responsible for identifying, engaging, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding current and prospective donors to meet annual revenue targets. We are transitioning from being volunteer-run to a hybrid staff/volunteer model, and need someone who can come on board, ramp up quickly and engage with our incredible network of donors to create a long-term fundraising strategy. We are looking for a leader who is able to build a team, and continue the work that has been started by volunteers during the twelve month period of explosive and unprecedented growth.

 

This person will have the opportunity to build a process-driven, robust development program. This includes improving & overseeing Razom’s donor data management system, donation processing, and making sure that our development program runs smoothly.  The VP of Development will have a mandate to build out their team as necessary to implement Razom’s robust fundraising strategy. This person will have a particular focus on pipeline development, relationship management, case for support development, grant proposal writing and submission, shepherding Razom through the RFP process, and including members of the Board of VPs and leadership team in philanthropy activities as appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

In collaboration with the Board and Razom leadership, build and implement a comprehensive, long-term fundraising strategy aligned with the organization’s’ goals and priorities, to include corporate, foundation, government grants etc.;

 

Oversee a portfolio of current and prospective donors, leading Razom’s effort to reach an 8-figure annual fundraising goal including both renewed gifts and new incremental revenue;

 

Implement  programs and collateral to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors targeted at the $100,000 level or higher;

 

Identify, develop, and mentor the Development team; Motivate, coach, and manage members of the Development team (both staff and volunteer) to ensure professional growth and attainment of team-wide and individual goals;

 

Strategically leverage Razom’s programs, staff and volunteer network as a cultivation tool for donors, foundations, and other partners interested in supporting Razom’s mission;

 

Ensure that all gifts from donors are received, recorded, acknowledged, and stewarded in accordance with policies and procedures; 

 

Oversee the team of donation processing and fundraising staff and volunteers. This may involve auditing & improving current policies and procedures;

 

Oversee an d ensure effectiveness of Razom’s annual giving campaign and other broad mailing campaigns as needed;

 

Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals; work with programs to manage the writing process and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach;

 

Oversee research of funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position Razom ahead of major funding changes or trends;

 

Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leadership team;

 

Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors;

 

Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program.

Qualifications 

 

Demonstrated passion for Razom’s mission; including the promotion of democracy and human rights in Ukraine;

 

Sustained successful leadership achieving fundraising goals in an executive role in a nonprofit organization; 10-plus years preferred; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources); 

 

A strategic thinker with a relentless focus on improving systems, coordinating efforts, using data to drive decision making, and an unwavering commitment to reaching goals; 

 

Track record in cultivating and securing 6 and 7-figure gifts across a variety of programs; 

 

Proven record of engaging volunteers for crowd-funding and engagement; 

 

Team hiring and staff management experience, interest in building out a strong and close-knit team for Razom’s long-term success; 

 

Superior computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, CRM, and donor databases; 

 

Experience with donor database management and implementation of development systems; 

 

Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time; 

 

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships; 

 

Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives; 

 

Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Razom; 

 

High energy and passion for Razom mission is essential; 

 

Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan; 

 

Must be able to write about the big picture and clearly discuss specific programmatic activities; 

 

Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; 

 

A professional and resourceful style; the ability to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.

Salary Range

 

$110,000/yr – $180,000/yr
