About the events
The 2025 Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival (UCMF) presents “Letters and Notes”, a dynamic celebration of Ukrainian literature and music. The festival will explore the intersection of music and literature across four distinct programs:
March 12, 2025 | 5:00 PM – A Roundtable on Ukrainian Music and Literature
In collaboration with the Jordan Center at NYU, join us for a roundtable conversation with literary scholar Tamara Hundorova on the rich connections between Ukrainian literature and musical composition. Please note that this event will take place at The Great Room, Jordan Center at NYU (19 University Place, New York, NY 10003).
March 13, 2025 | 7:30 PM – Fantastyka
This concert, in collaboration with TAK ensemble, explores Ukrainian contributions to sci-fi literature, focusing on themes of technology and artificial intelligence. Solomiya Moroz will present a world premiere inspired by Volodymyr Vynnychenko’s The Sun Machine.
March 14, 2025 | 7:30 PM – From Kontraktova Square
Recreate Kyiv’s 19th-century salon atmosphere with art songs and chamber works paired with poetry readings, inspired by the legendary Contracts House on Kyiv’s Kontraktova Square.
March 15, 2025 | 7:30 PM – Ukrainian Tone Poems
This final concert features exclusively instrumental works inspired by Ukrainian and American literature, ranging from Lesia Ukrainka to Stephen King.
