About the event
You’re invited to a private reading of The Hunters and the Hunted, a Ukrainian musical co-written by Kyrylo Beskorovainyi, Anton Humaniuk, and Bohdan Reshetilov. Directed by Lisa Rafferty, the event will feature live piano by Ruslan Ramazanov, 11 songs (in English), and selected scenes.
The one-hour reading will be followed by a 15-minute conversation with creators and Stew Stewart, Tony Award and two-time Obie Award-winning playwright and performer.
First premiered at the Kyiv National Academic Operetta Theatre in June 2023 in Ukraine, The Hunters and the Hunted has won a prestigious Ukrainian award – the Kyiv Pektoral. The story follows Gregory, a resilient 25-year-old Ukrainian engineer, falsely condemned to 25 years of forced labour. He escapes from the train heading to GULAG against all odds, guided by the unyielding motto: “Luck favours the brave.” Internationally it premiered at the Harvard University in April 2025.
Through Gregory’s journey, the musical weaves history and contemporary events, celebrating Ukraine’s cultural heritage while examining the struggle between oppression and freedom.
This is an invitation-only event. Please RSVP here to confirm your attendance.
