Razom Thanks President Trump for Providing Further Assistance to Ukraine

Washington, DC – Razom applauds President Trump’s announcement that the U.S. and NATO will work together to send life-saving weapons to Ukraine and put additional economic pressure on Russia. 

 

“Today’s announcement is President Trump’s strongest move towards peace in Ukraine yet. This is an important step toward President Trump’s goal of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, and it will save countless Ukrainian lives,” said Mykola Murskyj, Director of Advocacy at Razom. “Like President Trump said, Ukraine’s defenders have the courage and the know-how to defend themselves; they just need the tools.”  

 

“President Trump has provided Russia’s leadership with every opportunity to demonstrate interest in negotiating a resolution to its war. The Kremlin has rejected these windows of opportunity, even as Ukraine’s government has signed an economic partnership with the U.S. and repeatedly committed to a meaningful dialogue to end the killing.” 

 

“More than three years into Russia’s full-scale invasion, there are no longer any mysteries about Vladimir Putin’s intentions. He believes that he can crush the dream of an independent Ukraine one mile, one missile, and one murder at a time. He believes that he can peddle platitudes to America’s President while raining destruction on Ukraine’s cities.” 

 

“The executive branch should immediately implement this policy and Congress should quickly pass the Sanctioning Russia Act.”

Razom Calls for U.S. to Restore Critical Air Defense Aid to Ukraine

Washington, D.C. — Reports suggesting that the Pentagon may cut life-saving support for Ukraine
are extremely alarming. In taking such measures, Pentagon officials would directly undermine
President Trump’s efforts to achieve peace and subvert the President’s readiness to provide more air
defense to Ukraine.

Let’s be clear about the cost of this choice by Pentagon officials—more Russian missiles will get
through and more civilians will be murdered in their homes. This decision would further embolden
Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling that the United States isn’t strong enough to force
Russia to make peace and that Washington doesn’t keep its word. Beijing is watching. We call on
President Trump to reverse this mistake, send more air defense systems to Ukraine as he promised,
and help Kyiv stop the killing.

Razom Endorses Senate Resolution Demanding Return of Abducted Ukrainian Children

Razom for Ukraine fully endorses the Senate resolution introduced today by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) calling for the unconditional return of abducted Ukrainian children to their families before any peace deal between Russia and Ukraine is finalized. Razom urges all Senators to cosponsor this critical resolution and calls for its swift adoption.

 

This bipartisan resolution is an important step in fulfilling President Donald Trump’s March 19 promise to ensure Ukrainian children abducted by Russia are returned to their families. By kidnapping over 19,546 children from Ukraine, Russia is simultaneously erasing these children’s identities as Ukrainians while holding them hostage. The United States must say clearly that children are not bargaining chips.

 

Americans overwhelmingly agree that President Trump should prioritize freeing Ukrainian children from Russian captivity. This resolution builds on the momentum generated by an April 3 joint letter from faith leaders such as the Family Research Council and National Association of Evangelicals calling  on President Trump to ensure these children are reunited with their families in Ukraine before a peace deal is finalized. Many of the signatories to that letter have endorsed this resolution.

 

Russia’s program of mass child abduction is one of the gravest horrors of this war, and the United States can save these children. Earlier this month, Razom brought Mykola Kuleba, the founder of Save Ukraine—a Ukrainian NGO responsible for freeing over 800 children from Russia—as well as a young Ukrainian boy who they helped escape from Russia, to Washington so members of Congress could hear firsthand about the horrors of Russian abduction. After meeting with them, Senator Rick Scott and Senator John Fetterman immediately agreed to co-sponsor this resolution.

 

We are confident that more Senators will soon join their colleagues as cosponsors of this resolution, and that a companion resolution will be introduced in the House of Representatives. This is a significant effort to urge the White House to hold Russia accountable for its war crimes against Ukrainian children and ensure they are not abandoned.

 

Razom for Ukraine urges Congress to swiftly pass this resolution and send a clear signal not only that Vladimir Putin will be held accountable for his abduction of Ukrainian children, but that the families broken up by Russia’s invaders will one day be reunited.

We welcome news that the United States and Ukraine have reached an agreement outlining the future of their economic partnership. The innovation and determination of the Ukrainian people are a key reason Ukraine so far prevailed in defending against Russia’s invasion and why investing in Ukraine’s future is a good deal for Americans. At the same time, we can’t lose sight of the fact that Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine will not be ended by an economic deal—true lasting peace can only come when Ukraine’s security is guaranteed and Putin is forced to understand that Ukraine will defend itself with the support of its allies in the rest of Europe and America. 

 

Now, the real work of pressuring Putin must begin. We encourage the Trump administration to build on the momentum of this economic agreement by forcing Putin to the table through sanctions, seizing Russia’s state assets to aid Ukraine, and giving Ukraine the tools it needs to defend itself.

 

Now more than ever, it’s essential not only to equip Ukraine for self-defense, but to bolster its role as a frontline shield for Europe. Every missile intercepted over a Ukrainian city is one that never reaches deeper into the continent.

Razom Responds To Massive Russian Bombing Of Ukraine, Including Major Children’s Hospital In Kyiv

 

New York:  Today’s bombardment of Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital by Russia was one of several strikes around Ukraine resulting in at least 30 deaths and 130 injuries nationwide. The massive attack demonstrates again that Putin sees no norm as too sacrosanct to violate, no war crime as too heinous to contemplate, and no child as too innocent to target in his quest for imperial domination over Ukraine.

 

The destruction of one of Europe’s leading children’s hospitals, specializing in complicated cases of cancer and heart disease in kids, constitutes a brazen assault on international law and the notion of human decency. It is part of a broader terror bombing campaign unleashed by Russia against Ukrainian civilian targets. 

 

Today, Razom volunteers and staff  joined hundreds of Kyivans on the grounds of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital to provide immediate support and deliver gloves, protective equipment, and water. Since 2016, Razom for Ukraine (Razom) has been working with hundreds of hospitals throughout Ukraine and will continue to support their lifesaving work with supplies, expertise and funds. 

 

“We are gutted by yet another indiscriminate and brutal attack on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, particularly as innocent, critically ill children and their caregivers  were the unfortunate victims,” said Dora Chomiak, Razom’s CEO, “Our colleagues across Razom are as determined as ever to save lives and to bring a lasting victory by delivering aid, and by advocating for a stronger U.S. policy that defends Ukraine against Russia’s violence.” 

 

Currently, Razom is working with the leadership of the Okhmatdyt hospital, providing supplies to doctors and nurses enabling them to care for their patients. Razom is also cooperating with the Ministry of Health and with other nonprofits to continue supplying urgently-needed medical supplies and energy generation. The Razom Health program will continue to advance its goals of immediate and long-term assistance to support the patients of this world-class hospital and other healthcare facilities across Ukraine under constant threat of attack. 

 

We anticipate more assaults in the days to come. As Ukrainian volunteers work to pull children out from under the rubble, one thing is clear: giving Ukraine the means to defend itself is the only thing that can prevent such heartbreaking scenes from being repeated.  

 

If Ukraine were permitted to defend itself by striking military airfields in Russia, it could protect itself and its vital infrastructure. If Ukraine had been able to destroy the Russian bombers responsible for today’s attack before they took off, countless lives might have been saved. 

 

Razom is calling on the White House to immediately change its policy restricting the use of U.S.-supplied weapons by Ukraine inside of Russia. Ukraine must be enabled to strike all legitimate military targets in Russia to properly defend itself.

Razom is honored to announce a $1,620,000 grant from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation to support the Razom Heroes emergency medicine program. 

“Russia’s full-scale invasion has targeted Ukraine’s critical infrastructure  while deliberately killing and injuring thousands of civilians and  regularly overwhelming Ukraine’s emergency response capabilities. Our  partnership with Razom is designed to expand Ukraine’s emergency medical response capacity by delivering medical supplies and training to Ukraine’s civilian first-responders and essential workers.” – Howard G. Buffett, the Foundation’s Chairman and CEO  

Established in 1999, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation has invested more than $600 million in  Ukraine since the Russian full-scale invasion in 2022 to address the largest  humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II. The Foundation’s support has been instrumental to sustaining Ukraine’s agricultural sector, building Ukraine’s capacity for demining, and rebuilding strategic infrastructure.  

The Foundation’s grant to Razom will facilitate the delivery of 5,000 Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs), supplies and staff training for Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) and Ukraine’s State Emergency Services. 

In 2023, Razom Heroes made over 1,700 individual deliveries of supplies to end-users  across Ukraine, including distributing over 40,000 IFAKs. Teaming up with the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Razom facilitated week-long basic medical training for some 2,000  civilian leaders across Ukraine including educators, civil society leaders, local government employees, and medical students.
