Kharkiv Winter Math School

Razom Ticket is glad to announce a new project initiative – supporting Math School in Kharkiv. The Winter Math School took place in Kharkiv on January 4-11, 2020. Kids in grades 8 through 11 attended the school that was organized by the Kharkiv Physics and Mathematics Lyceum №27 and the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics. To qualify, each participant had to have reached the 3rd or 4th stage of Ukrainian Math Olympiad.

This year, 90 students came from 12 cities all over Ukraine. Naturally, most students were from Kharkiv – 40 Kharkivians attended the school. The rest of the students came from Kyiv, Uzhhorod, Dnipro, Kramators’k, Kherson, Kryvyi Rih, Lutsk, Berdiansk, Mariupol, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia. RazomTicket was happy to support 19 participants attending the school in Kharkiv this year.

The students had an intense session every day – 6 hours of classes plus homework. Classes were led by award-winning teachers from Ukraine: Sergey Lifits (Сергей Лифиц) and Anastasia Lysakevych (Анастасия Лысакевич), who keep raising the bar for education in Ukraine, together with several International Math Olympiad winners and medalists as well as alumni of the Kharkiv Physics and Mathematics Lyceum №27 and Karazin Kharkiv National University.

The school provides serious practice for students who are preparing for the Olympiads, with a deep dive into theorems and new approaches. All this preparation and training also translates into other STEM subjects. The kids get a chance to meet their peers from all over the country, learn from each other and form a supportive community. They are taught by some of the best teachers in the country and have International and Ukrainian Olympiad winners as their mentors who guide them throughout their time at school.

On the last day of school, kids shared their thoughts:

“I want to thank for the unique opportunity to attend this winter math school. Besides the many super interesting lectures, they created an atmosphere that motivates me and inspires me to work more. A big thank you for all the work and effort that you invest in us – it’s invaluable. Wishing you inspiration for new endeavors.”

“Truly incredible teachers. Every class brings something new and instructive. You really don’t notice how the classes go by. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to spend this holiday vacation so productively and with so much fun.”
